This is the antique 1915 edition of Century Readings in English Literature edited by Cunliffe, Pyre, and Young, and published by The Century Co. It has a burgundy cover with gold lettering on the spine. The book covers excerpts from major works and authors in English literature like Tennyson, Browning, Thackeray, Keats, Scott, Blake, Pop, Milton, and Chaucer. The works span the years 1340 to 1909. There 966 pages plus 177 pages of appendices, notes, and indexes.
The book is in good antique condition for its age and use. The covers have general wear with some discoloration and wear to corners and edges. The covers front and back have areas where the cover material is bubbling up from the internal cardboard. The gold lettering is intact. Several people signed their name in the front cover and someone took extensive notes inside the front and back covers and end pages. The inside front cover endpaper has several holes. The spine is cracked at the back but still attached. The pages are yellowed.
The book measures 9 inches by 6.25 inches. It is 2 inches thick.
