This is a set of two first edition high school football manuals. The set includes A Manual of Football for High Schools by Charles W. Bachman, published in 1923 by the Kansas State Agricultural College. It also includes Foot Ball Techniques & Tactics by Robert C. Zuppke, published in 1923 by Zuppke and Bearg, Publishers. Bachman was head coach for Kansas State Agricultural College and Zuppke was head coach for the University of Illinois. A Manual of Football has a green cover with gold lettering and Foot Ball Techniques has a gray cover with black lettering. Both include illustrations and photographs. A Manual has 125 pages. Foot Ball has 163 pages.
Both are in good antique condition for their age and use. Both have wear and discoloration to their covers, especially to the corners, edges, and spine. Both books have tears along the top portions of the spine.
George R. Edwards wrote his name and Westport High Kansas City Mo in ink inside the front cover of A Manual. It looks like A Manual also has some ink damage as the edges of the inside front and back covers and pages are covered in blue ink. Both have yellowed pages.
Both books measure 9.25 by 6.25 inches. They are both half an inch thick.
