This is the antique 1916 Macmillan's Pocket Classics edition of Bacon's Essays. The book has a brown cover with black lettering except for the title which is gold lettering. The spine is also lettered in black. There is a black and white portrait of Bacon at the title page. The full title is The Essays or Counsels Civil and Moral of Francis Bacon. There are 318 pages.
The book is in good antique condition for its age and use. The covers have general wear to corners and edges with some minor discoloration along the spine. The gold lettering is intact. There are multiple ink and pencil notes inside the front and back covers as well as the table of contents and a few pages throughout. The spine is cracked at the front cover but still attached at the back.
The book measures 5.75 by 4.25 inches. It is .75 inches thick.
