This is an antique edition of Ray's New Higher Arithmetic in the Ray's Mathematical Series, published by American Book Company. The book has a copyright of 1880, but American Book Company wasn't founded until 1890, so this has to be at least 1890 on. The book is a maroon color with black lettering and floral decorations on the front. The spine is lettered in gold with embossed flourishes and decorations. There are 408 pages.
The book is in great antique condition for its age and use. The front cover has some discoloration, but the spine looks almost brand new with minimal wear to the embellishments or gold lettering. W. L. Gater stamped his name and city Coggon, Iowa several times inside the front and back covers as well as on the Preface page. The pages are very yellowed. The spines are still attached.
The book measures 7.5 by 5.25 inches. It is 1.25 inches thick.
