This is a set of two decorated antique books - Miss Fenwick's Failures & Thelma. Both books beige covers with floral decorations. Thelma has long wavy Art Nouveau style flowers on the front cover and spine. The spine is also lettered in gold. Miss Fenwick has an illustration of Miss Fenwick in a blue dress staring at a wall of flowers behind her. The spine also has flowers and lettering in gold. Thelma was written by Marie Corelli and published by Hurst and Company. The book is undated but Hurst and Company went out of business in 1919, making it at least older than that. Miss Fenwick's Failures or "Peggy Pepper-Pot" was written by Esme Stuart and published by the A.L. Burt Company. It is also undated but the pencil inscription in the front has a date of 1910 making it at least as old as that.
Both books are in fair antique condition for their age and use, especially Miss Fenwick. Miss Fenwick's covers have separated at front and back, held on by the internal webbing. Both books have fading and discoloration to the covers and spines. The gold lettering is faded. Both books have pencil inscriptions inside the front covers. Miss Fenwick says "To Elsa With Best Wishes From Martha 10-6 / 1910". Emma Noble wrote her name inside Thelma. Both have yellowed pages.
Thelma measures 7.25 by 5 inches. It is 1.25 inches thick. Miss Fenwick measures 7.5 by 5.5 inches. It is 1.5 inches thick.
