This is a handmade vintage wicker sewing basket or purse. It has a rectangle body with curved edges and two top handles. A green velvet ribbon is threaded through the top quarter of the basket with a big green bow on one side. The other three bottom sides are covered with matching green felt cut to look like grass. There are cut felt flowers and beads in bright colors decorating the middle on three sides, giving the basket a garden look. The top of the basket is covered with a thick green felt flap with a green rick-rack border all the way around. There are two felt flowers and a small bee patch on the flap as well as a green plastic loop to pull up the flap. The inside of the basket is also lined with green felt with a green rick-rack border. There is a brass Florida pin with palm trees and a seashell attached to the underside of the flap to the right. To the left there is a tag labeled Hand Made by Peggy Compton.
The basket is in great vintage condition for its age and use. The colors are bright with minimal staining. The flowers and beads are attached. The wicker is in good condition with no broken or missing pieces. The flap has a curve, and it looks like maybe a patch or some sewing to keep down the plastic loop is missing. The plastic loop is literally held on by a thread - it's a thick thread, but I have not used it to pull up the flap just in case.
The basket measures 10.75 inches long by 6.75 inches wide. It is 6 inches tall, not including the handles.
