This is a pair of framed, signed etchings from R. Volpe. One is titled Etude and the other Coda. Both are printed on embossed heavy-weight paper in shades of blue-gray. They are framed in a silver painted wood frame with a cream colored mat. The mat is cut in an octagon shape with a blue border. The etchings are signed in pencil underneath. Etude is signed "Etude a/p VIII / XXla Volpe" and Coda is signed "Coda a/p X/XX Ch l Volpe". The backs are covered in brown paper with hanging hardware with stickers from Mirzette Custom Frames in LA and Vander Kolk Interiors of Kansas City. Richard Volpe was an American artist originally from Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He started etching in 1965 and continued until his death in Laguna Beach, California until 1985. His work is owned by several American museums, including the Smithsonian.
The etchings and frames are in excellent condition for their age and use. The frames have general wear but are tightly nailed together. The mats have yellowed just slightly. The etchings are still bright with minimal to no wear. The glass is clear. Someone wrote the etching information in black marker on the back of each frame.
The frames measure 12.5 inches long by 11.5 inches wide. They are both half an inch thick.
