This is an ornate brass double inkwell with a face decoration. The inkwell has two lidded cups to either side with brass scrollwork in between. There is a small well at the front to lay a pen or other small supplies. The back of the inkwell is high to rest envelopes on as they dry. It is decorated with a face of either a lion or a gargoyle-like man. There are no makers marks and it looks to be a midcentury reproduction of earlier Victorian style inkwells.
The inkwell is in good vintage condition for its age and use. It has general wear with some areas of discoloration and tarnishing. There are some small ink spots around the lids and in the shallow well. There are no glass bottles inside the lids so the inkwells are currently hollow.
The inkwell measures 13 inches long by 6.25 inches wide. It is 4.5 inches tall. The inkwells could fit an ink bottle 1.25 inches in diameter.
