This is the vintage 1930 edition of The New Hymnal for American Youth, edited by H. Augustine Smith and published by The Century Co. According to the title page, this is "a book providing hymns, unison and responsive readings, litanies and prayers, worship services, and other devotional materials for intermediates, seniors, and young people." The book is divided into two sections - the hymns followed by the worship service materials. There are 344 hymns across 282 pages. The worship section goes from pages 283-368.
The book is in good vintage condition for its age and use. The covers have general wear, especially to corners and edges. The spine has started to fray and tear along the front edge toward the bottom. The covers have separated at the spine at both inside front and back. Someone wrote in pencil inside the front cover, "463 Song 161 Prayers 393 422 387 409 414 Song 60 Resp. R. 379 Prayers Closing Hymn 46 Last Page 368". Someone glued in a typed lyrics sheet inside the back cover titled Dare to Be Brave, Dare to Be True. The pages are yellowed.
The hymnal measures 6 inches by 8 inches. It is 1 inch thick.
