This is an antique H. Burgess ironstone tea leaf covered sugar bowl. It is white ironstone with copper painted details. The front and back have the tea leaf while the sides have geometric designs around the two arched handles. The top has border lines around the edge of the bowl and the edge of the lid. The lid has a handle which is also painted. The bottom is marked with the H. Burgess, Burslem mark. H. Burgess was in business at the Kiln Croft Works in Stoke-on-Trent, England from 1864 to 1892.
The sugar bowl is in good antique condition for its age and use. The paint is intact and still sparkly. The glaze has crackled all over with some staining to the crackle around the top edge. The top edge has two small chips that are hidden by the lid. The inside rim does have large chipped edges. There is a hairline crack going through the bottom of the bowl.
The bowl measures 5.5 inches long from handle to handle. It is 4.25 inches wide at its widest point. It is 6.5 inches tall.
