This is the antique 1889 edition of Uncle Herbert's Speaker and Autograph-Album Verses, A Choice Collection Carefully Selected and Arranged by Uncle Herbert, published by J.A. Ruth & Co. The book has brown covers with black lettering and details on the front cover. The spine is decorated with a black line illustration of flowers and lettered in gold. It has olive and beige floral endpapers with gilded page ends. There are 416 pages with a Victorian cutout baby head bookmark tucked in the pages.
The book is in good antique condition for its age and use. The covers have fading and discoloration, but the spine is in good condition with the floral illustration and gold lettering intact. The gilded page ends are still shiny. The spines have begun to separate at the inside front and back covers. Bessie wrote her name very faintly in pencil inside the front cover and then again with the date Dec 25 1889 on the first blank page. This page has also detached but is still with the book. The pages are browned.
The book measures 5.25 by 7.75 inches. It is 1.75 inches thick.
