This is an illustrated edition of Geoffrey Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, rendered into Modern English by Devill Coghill and published by Penguin Books in 1981. It is a thick paperback with black covers and a full color painting of medieval travelers on the cover. The lettering is Gothic script in white and yellow. The spine is also lettered in Gothic script with a full color painting. The book has both black and white and full color illustration plates and the complete text of The Canterbury Tales.
The book is in good vintage condition for its age and use. The covers do have wear with a bend to the bottom right front corner and bends to both back corners. There is general wear along the spine and cover edges. There are shorthand pencil notations at the top of the inside front cover. The covers are still attached at the spine and the binding is tight. The pages are starting to yellow but the illustrations are still bright.
The book measures 9.5 inches by 6.75 inches. It is 1 inch thick.
