This is a Victorian style velvet cover photo album. The album has wood covers front and back that are covered in red velvet. The pages have gilt edges. The album has silver metal for the closure mechanism and a silver tin badge on the front. The inside pages are thick to accommodate large cabinet cards with one opening per page. The last 2 pages are divided into 2 small photograph openings. Each of the openings - big or small - have curved top edges and gold borders.
The album is in fair antique condition for its age and use. The velvet has faded and has discoloration with some staining. The corners are frayed exposing the wood underneath, and there is a small vertical tear along the bottom portion of the spine. The silver tin badge is still shiny. The gilt ends have large tarnish spots and discoloration. The pages inside have fading and foxing with tears to the edges of the openings and slits with some portions missing or torn away. There is an ink inscription inside the front cover, "Maud A. Hammenstein (?) from her Mamma Dec. 25th 1893". Please see photos!
The album measures 8.5 inches tall by 6.5 inches wide. It is about .75 inches thick.
