This is the 1945 Illustrated Junior Library edition of Black Beauty by Anna Sewell, published by Grosset & Dunlap. It has its original full color dust jacket featuring an illustrated scene from the book that wraps to the spine. Underneath, the book has light and dark brown covers with a repeating turquoise horse head pattern. The end pages inside the inside front and back covers are also illustrated in color. The book is illustrated with black and white illustrations as well as full color illustration plates by Fritz Eichenberg. There are 288 pages.
This book is in great vintage condition for its age and use. The dust jacket has general wear and has been wrapped in library mylar to protect it. There is minimal wear to the covers and spines underneath with some very minor discoloration and fraying along the top of the spine. The covers are both still attached at the spine. There is an ink inscription inside the front cover, "To John Jr. from Marcia Christmas 1956". The pages are starting to yellow.
The book measures 8.25 inches by 5.75 inches, and is 1.25 inches deep.
