This is the antique 1907 Vaedecum Series edition of The Biglow Papers by James Russell Lowell, published by the Henry Altemus Publishing Company. It has light blue-green covers with gold Art Nouveau decorations on the front. Inset in the center is the title above a watercolor painting print of sailboats in a bay. The spine is also decorated and lettered in gold. The title page is illustrated in green and red, and there is also a photograph plate of Lowell. There are 221 pages with several addition advertisement pages.
The is in good antique condition for its age and use. The covers have general wear with fraying to corners and edges. The spine is very darkened, but the front and back covers are still bright with the gold lettering mostly intact. The ship print has some wear to the edges. There is an ink inscription inside the front cover with the date Christmas 1910. There is another pencil inscription inside the back cover. The pages are yellowed.
The book measures 6.25 by 4.25 inches. It is .75 inches thick.
