This is the antique 1911 New Edition of An Introduction to American Literature by Brander Matthews, published by The American Book Company. The book has light slate blue covers with gold lettering inside a gold floral border on the cover. The spine is also lettered in gold. The endpapers are an allover gold abstract pattern. The book is illustrated with black and white portraits and photographs, as well as reprinted original documents from classic American authors like Poe, Longfellow, and Thoreau. There are 269 pages with 3 addition pages of advertisements at the end.
The book is in good antique condition for its age and use. The covers have some staining and discoloration with fraying to corner ends and spine. The gold lettering on both cover and spine is intact and bright. There is an ink inscription inside the front cover and the endpaper page is torn at the top. The spines are attached. The pages are yellowed with some foxing.
The book measures 5.5 by 7.5 inches. It is .75 inches thick.
