This is a gorgeous set of Art Nouveau inspired antique art history texts by Richard Muther. There are two books in the set both with blue-gray covers, gold detailing, and gold lettering. The set includes Ein Jahrhundert Franzosischer Malerei (A History of French Painting) published in 1901 and Geschichte der Englischen Malerei (A History of English Painting) published in 1903. Both published by S. Fischer. French Painting has brown and gold endpapers. Both books have black and white illustration plates of famous paintings. Both have gold ribbon bookmarks. English Painting has 400 pages and French Painting has 323 pages.
The books are in great antique condition for their age and use. The covers have minimal wear. The bookmarks are fraying and have discoloration. Both books have bookplates inside the front covers from Frida Spilberg. The pages have begun to yellow.
The books measure 9 inches by 7 inches. They are about 1 inch thick.
