This is a set of two antique ironstone ladyfinger style square bowls. The bowls are named ladyfingers because the sides have wide vertical scalloped sections that look like ladyfinger cookies. Both are white square dishes with scalloped edges. The larger bowl is marked Royal Ironstone China Alfred Meakin England. The mark on this bowl dates it to pre-1897. The smaller bowl is marked K.T. & K. Warranted Granite, which is the mark for Knowles, Taylor, & Knowles. This mark dates this bowl sometime between the late 1880s and late 1890s.
The bowls are in fair antique condition for their age and use with a lovely antique patina. Both bowls are crackled and stained, making them more cream and beige than their original white. The Meakin bowl has large hairline cracks throughout the bottom of the bowl but no chips. The Knowles bowl has one hairline crack to the edge with several large chips to the top scallops. Please see photos!
The Meakin bowl measures 8.5 inches square. It is 3 inches tall. The Knowles bowl is 6 inches square. It is 2.5 inches tall.
