This is the antique Kenilworth Edition of Sir Walter Scott's Waverly Novels, published by George Routledge and Sons between 1881 and 1886. The book is actually two novels in one - The Monastery and The Abbott. This edition has brown covers with black botanical details and gold lettering and details on the spine. The back is embossed with Scott's monogram and more botanical details. The front and back endpapers are dark green. The book is illustrated for both novels with black and white illustration plates. The novels are paged separately, and there are several advertisement pages at the very end.
The book is in great antique condition for its age and use. The covers have general wear with minimal fading to the details or embossing. The gold on the spine has some slight fading but is mostly still bright. There is some fraying to the top of the spine and the corners. The covers are still attached at the spine at the back cover and mostly attached, but cracked at the front cover. The pages are browning.
The book measures 7.5 by 5 inches. It is 2 inches thick.
