This is an antique leatherbound cabinet card album labeled The St. Andrews Album, published by C.R. & Co. It has dark brown leather covers with a thin gold border on the edge. The spine is embossed with three leaf clovers. The album has gilt page edges and a brass clasp. Inside the front and back endpapers are textured white and the edges of the album are tooled in gold. The album is illustrated with Scottish iconography like gold thistles and full color illustrated pages of Scottish history and stories, like Burns & Highland Mary, Tam o'Shanter, and Lord Ullin's Daughter. There are two cabinet cards in the album. One is a portrait of an older woman, marked Silas Eastham Southport on the back. The other is of a toddler girl, marked Ellie Beckett Ryder, Born Sept 15, 77 - a little twin Oct 1879. The photographer is Stretford Photographic Studio.
The album is in great antique condition for its age and use. The spine has wear with tearing to the top and bottom. The leather has general wear but the gold borders are bright. The clasp is dulled but still works. It is marked with the date 1881. The gilt ends are bright. The gold detailing and illustrated pages inside the album are also bright. The pages are in good condition with general wear like small tears to the edges of the photo openings and yellowing to the pages. The covers are attached at the spine.
The album measures 11.5 by 9 inches. It is 2.5 inches thick.
