Cast Iron Letter / Receipt Spike

$15.30 $18.00

It can have many names - a restaurant spike, a receipt spike, a bill spike, a stationary spindle - but it has one purpose - hold all the orders in a restaurant until closing time. While now used mostly in restaurants, the receipt spike had its origins in the office as a simple filing system. A clerk would put finished files on the spike until it was full, then loop twine through the holes to tie the files together. The bundle would get sent to the company archive where it would be organized and stored. This is a cast iron receipt spike with an embossed base. The base is a four-square cross within a circle with a leaf motif on each arm of the cross.

The spike is in great condition for its age and use. It is tarnished all over to a lovely black-brown color. The spike is a little offset, but still attached to the base. The point of the spike is still pointy.

The base measures 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches. It sits 5 inches tall.
