This is a set of clear glass antique apothecary bottles with their original glass covered labels. There are two bottles in the set, a taller bottle and a shorter bottle. Both are clear glass with a round clear glass stopper. Both have gold bordered labels with black lettering on a white and blue background with gold detailing and flourishes. One of the bottles is labeled P. Irid. Flor. which is Florentine Iris Powder. Iris Powder was often used in cough syrups, breath fresheners, and as the base of high-end cosmetics and perfumes. The other bottle is labeled P. Jalapae, which Powder of Jalap. It was used as a strong laxative or emetic. There are no makers marks on the bottles.
The bottles are in good antique condition for their age and use. Both have clouding to the glass, and both have stuck stoppers. I can't get the stoppers to come out, but potentially with a good soak under soap and water they could. Both have chipped labels on the right hand corner. The P.Jalapae bottle has large smooth chips on the underside of the stopper and jar.
The taller bottle measures 9.5 inches tall. It is 3.5 inches in diameter at the base. The shorter bottle measures 8.25 inches tall. It is 2.75 inches in diameter.
